Day 6 - East Village, Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge and Century 21

Ah ah today I'm going to beat Nicolas and post before him, the poor lad is in bed sleeping, exhausted, I had 2 cocktails at dinner so I'm good to go. I've got my trusty NC10 on my laps, the little lady next to me is falling asleep competition is on :-)

What a day again!!! I mean we all love New York and it seems New York loves us too, 91 degrees today, more sun, more visits and more shopping...

This morning we took it easy, breakfast around 9 and left the hotel around 10:30, I think we all needed that, despite our resistance to jet lag we had to rest. Quick check on the news, more bad news, the usual... GM is stopping producing Pontiac so it seems I'll never get a Solstice after all,
no one in the crew infected by swine flu, we're good to go.

Today we're going to Lower East Side, East Village and Chinatown. Well all I can say is that it is kind of a lower standard than what we seen so far, probably more mainstream New York than we're accustomed with but still interesting to see, although not much is to be seen.

Quick stop at a square, yeah ok, when you've seen Central Park, square sounds like a patch of grass with stuffs... High point, little chinese woman stopped with her furets who needed to fulfill their natural destiny. Results, furets are funny, woman was a bitch and grabbed the poor furet by the leash and launched it towards his basket on her bike, needless to say that the woman left quickly with half of greenpeace, WWF and myself tailing her.

We had lunch at Kat'z Delicatessen or Kat'z Deli a Jewish Kosher delicatessen famous in here for its pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs, apparently the best in NYC... Katz's was the site of Meg Ryan's and Estelle Reiner's famous "I'll have what she's having" fake orgasm scene in the 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally...; the table at which she and Billy Crystal sat, is marked with a sign that says "Where Harry met Sally...hope you have what she had!" we actually found the table and have proof but unfortunately it was already taken...

After a much delicate and expensive sandwich we're on our way to Chinatown, again nothing really impressive, looks like China, smells like China but it's not China, pass. We almost lost Marie, who crossed the road without care... with a van coming full speed towards her. Fortunately I had the good reflex to pull her back towards me so she's all right and still with us, no stress. Backpack with a handle = life savers

Our next stop is Brooklyn Bridge, yes the very same one that was ripped apart by Godzilla 10 years ago and more recently by the clumsy monster in Cloverfield, well it's still very much there, how strange >_<>

Temperature is still rising, the girls are getting more red by the minute, we need to stop before sun burns become 1st or 2nd degree burns, Nicolas and I are fine but still need a drink :-)

We stopped at a very nice old fashioned cafe next to Broadway for an hour by which time we located our next target, Century 21 a famous designer outlet. Yes this trip is definitely about shopping and even Nicolas is playing the part despite the fact that we only managed to find one decent electronic store. (BTW there is a vintage guitar shop next to the hotel with all kinds of old Fenders and Gibsons temptation is rising, must resist but I'm still looking for Mrs number 9, arrrgghhh)

So Century 21 is only about clothes, shoes and accessories, great place, we all left with a bag of goodies and we're desperately trying not to go back to Soho...

Then... Arm lifting... back to the hotel, collapsed, shower and back on the street for dinner.

Earlier on we found a nice pizza place but we must have read the card of the restaurant next door 'cause the one we ended up in didn't do any pizzas. The girls have been asking for pizzas for days now but due a series of unforseen events it has yet to happen and as of tonight it is very much a work in progress.... Oh well at least most of us enjoyed their finest NYC burger to date, I settled for stuffed rolled chicken breast and cocktails...

That's it for tonight, tomorrow more visits and pizzas, I'll try not to wander too much towards any guitar stores, although I'm desperate to have a play on one of them >_<
