The day began with a little song, today it's Marie 26th Birthday, even at 26 she is still the young puppy of the group ;-).
For this very Happy Birth'day we decided to ride all around New York and see how far we could get...
After a much heated debate between riding on the subway or in cab. Marie gave us another lesson of Arm Lifting in New York, 42 taxis attempts later we were on our way to Ground Zero. (tyeah it's not because she's hot that taxi drivers will dump their fares... but it's worth trying...)
Well as you may have heard Ground Zero is a big void waiting to be filled. It was left to our imagination to project where the Twin Towers were before 9/11. But still, it's a very special place and it brings along a lot of respect as to how much horror people sustained on that fateful day.
After this much commerative episode, we took a ferry bound to Liberty island to see zee strange french lady reading a book with a torch at the entrance of NYC. Along the way we had a look at the Hudson River recently made famous as a safe runway for landing a plane with both engine stopped and filled with all kind of birds... they must have been big birds BTW ;-)
After an hour long waiting under the scorching sun, the recovery of sunglasses left at checkpoint, we were finally on the ferry. But as the ferry was parked with no protection from the current/waves of the harbour we had quite a rough boarding, it was like walking onto on of these old wooden suspended bridges with wind blasting...priceless... fortunately as more people boarded the boat stabilised (the bigger the better) and we were on our way :-)
What to say the Statue of Liberty? Beautiful, symbolic grandiose... all these words are not sufficient to describe it... all that remains are the shots we made of her.
Back in the port, another queue, this time to go to Ellis Island the former immigrants processing center. In consideration of the island, its unique museum and especially the huge queue to go back to Manhattan, we decided to leave the content of the island to our imagination, needless to say that it was great... not sure it is really filled with 1000's of hot ladies in bikini playing heavy metal but I tend to have quite a productive imagination...
The trip back was amazing with its beautiful panorama of Manhattan! Cameras and camcoders worked at full capacity. Once our feet on the ground, we recovered and headed straight to Broadway to join Wall Street and admire the buildings of the various companies responsible for such heavy discounts in stores. Again, we can say that NY is a haven for zee French people. They are everywhere even the French flag was hoisted on the facade of the NYSE. (maybe Carla wants to take advantage of the low retail prices herself???)
More Arm lifting and back to the hotel, the heat is incredible, bring on the AC!!!
Tonight is THE night we're definitely going to the ESB after cancelling 3 nights in a row, the Empire State Building is ours tonight. To guarantee our visit there we decided to postpone dinner after the ESB, this time no more excuses and we want to see the sunset.
Results, we made it almost to the top, 86th floor terrace exactly. 2 hours of queue up and down, no AC. Elevators are fast but smooth. View = incredible, missed the sunset but it was really worth the wait...
The end of the day was spent in a restaurant on 7th where we duly celebrated Marie's birthday.
Walked back to the hotel where we collapsed in our beds knock down by fatigue... zzz...
